History: Once the youngest sister of the Halliwell line, and now the middle Phoebe has had to deal with some significant things in her life. Born November 2nd, 1975 to Victor Bennet and Patricia Halliwell, Phoebe was always quite curious and mischievous. Losing her mother at a young age had a significant effect on her that she never really realized until she was older. Throughout her childhood and teenage years, she never really got along with Prue. She was always defiant and rebellious, getting into trouble for shoplifting, fighting, and other things that some teenagers did. Her nickname in school was Freebie because of her relations with boys. Piper always had to play the role of mediator between her older and younger sisters.

After high school and trying college for awhile, Phoebe moved to New York in search of her father, who had left the girls with their grandmother when she was very young. While there, she lived in Manhattan and met a guy named Clay. They dated for awhile, but when Penny Halliwell passed away suddenly, after spending some time in the hospital, Phoebe returned to San Francisco once more. She tried living with her sisters again, but something happened between her and Prue. Prue’s fiancée Roger, had come on to Phoebe but he made it look like the opposite had happened and she and Prue got into a terrible fight which resulted in Phoebe leaving San Francisco and going back to New York.

She kept in contact with Piper, but did not talk to Prue. And soon Phoebe was broke, and jobless and she knew she had to come home. Piper and Prue had moved out of their apartment they shared and back into the Manor so they wouldn’t have to sell it. Phoebe came home one night when it was raining, Piper knew she was coming home and had just gotten around to telling Prue, when Phoebe let herself in. She’d found the hide-a-key. Things between Prue and Phoebe were tense because of the whole Roger deal, and despite Piper’s efforts to have a nice family reunion dinner, it did not happen. Phoebe said she ate on the bus, though later Piper brought Phoebe a snack anyway, and Prue brought her a blanket.

Phoebe was messing around with their old spirit board that their mother had given them, when the pointer started to move. Her sisters did not believe her, and reminded Phoebe that she always used to push the pointer. The pointer moved again, and eventually spelled out the word “ATTIC.” Her sisters still didn’t believe her but Phoebe went up to the attic after the power had gone out, despite agreeing not to. The door just opened, and Piper and Prue had never been able to get it open before. Phoebe went inside and found the incantation in the Book of Shadows and read it aloud.

"Hear now the words of the witches
The secrets we hid in the night
The oldest of gods are invoked here
The great work of magic is sought
In this night and in this hour
I call upon the ancient power
Bring your powers to we sisters three
We want the power
Give us the power"

Nothing too big seemed to happen, the chandelier moved and there was light and stuff, and one of the pictures of the girls with them standing apart was changed so that they were closer together. Phoebe read more from the book, and tried to convince her sisters that they were witches, but they did not believe her. Soon though, Prue moved things. Piper froze things, and Phoebe had premonitions. The sisters soon discovered that Piper’s boyfriend, Jeremy was a warlock who wanted to kill them, so they used a power of three spell and vanquished him.

Soon after, they began to get used to being witches. Their father, Victor, came into town. He didn’t want his daughters to be witches. Phoebe met with him, before the girl’s were supposed to because she wanted to see him. Prue didn’t trust Victor at all, but Phoebe did, and in the end Victor helped to save them. He was worried because he still thought of them as his little girls, but after seeing what they could do, he knew they had grown up. They were supposed to all have dinner, but Victor left abruptly, leaving for them instead a tape of old family events.

In their first year of being witches they went through many trials, even journeying to the past in order to stop a warlock from killing them in the present. While in the past, Phoebe got to know her mom a little bit better, and was going to make it so she didn’t die, by writing her a note warning her that she would drown, but Phoebe knew that she couldn’t change that much and she removed the note from the Book of Shadows.

During their first year of being witches, they also met the demon of fear, Barbas, who tried to kill them all to free himself from the prison he’d been in for hundreds of years. Phoebe had always believed her greatest fear was elevators, but it was revealed that it was losing a sister when Barbas tried to drown Prue, knowing that was her greatest fear.

Later Phoebe’s ex-boyfriend Clay from New York came to San Francisco, and he was in a lot of trouble, magical trouble. Phoebe ended up sleeping with him, but also helped him, and almost got herself killed, but Clay committed a selfless act which released him from the curse of the urn. He then left, and Phoebe was alone once again. Many other things happened, such as discovering Leo was a whitelighter, and temporarily switching powers with Prue.

Phoebe had a premonition that a good friend of the sisters, Andy Trudeau was going to die. A demon called Tempest kept resetting time in order for another demon to kill Phoebe and her sisters. They eventually beat Tempest, and killed the demon, leaving Tempest drained and not very powerful, but the cost was the life of Andy Trudeau. All of the sisters were very sad about this, but knew that sometimes there was a price to being witches.

In their second year, they faced even more demons and evil. Phoebe had a premonition of the future that she was going to be burned to death at the stake, so to see why that happened the sisters journeyed to the future. In this future Phoebe was in prison because she’d used her advanced powers to kill someone that had killed a friend of hers and gotten away with it. Her sisters tried to save her but Phoebe realized that she had to pay for her crimes, and Prue and Piper watched as Phoebe was burned to death at the stake. Then they were all returned to their own times, but they remembered everything that had happened. Phoebe even said that she could still feel the flames on their body, and it was then that sisters realized, their powers were to protect the innocent and not to punish the guilty.

Another major thing that happened to Phoebe is she went back to college, hoping to get a degree in psychology. While she was studying one night, her sisters were having a party downstairs, she went down to yell at them and they started to break the party up, but then Phoebe heard the party noises again, so she came back down to yell but found no one there. All of a sudden she was pushed into the wall by some unknown force, and a lamp broke. Her sisters heard this and came in and found her. Soon it was revealed that it was a past life of Phoebe’s where she was an evil witch in the 1920s, with the power of pyrokinesis. In that time she and Prue and Piper were all cousins running a speak easy out of the manor. Past Phoebe had fallen in love with an immortal warlock named Anton, who had turned her evil and wanted the powers of her cousins. Her cousins believed that Past Phoebe and Anton were soul mates, and so they murdered her and cursed her future lives so that she would not be able to hook up with Anton, but Phoebe’s life was saved by a magic proof amulet.

Phoebe continued to attend college, and she dated here and there. She sort of fell for Cupid because he made her open her heart and all, but he could not stay. Phoebe also always wanted an active power, and when the Halliwells came upon a genie, she inadvertently wished for one and the genie stole the power from a dragon warlock, and the dragon warlock nearly killed the charmed ones, but everything was put right again.

However, Phoebe gained the power of levitation in her third year of being a witch. She also met a man named Cole Turner who was the new Assistant District Attorney, and there was an immediate attraction. What she didn’t know was Cole was also a demon called Belthazor and he was out to kill the Charmed Ones, even going so far as to follow them into the past to wipe out their whole line, here it was revealed that Phoebe’s true love’s name began with a C. What Cole didn’t count on was falling for the youngest Halliwell and not being able to kill her. Of course it was eventually revealed that Cole was Belthazor and they had to vanquish him, but Phoebe did not vanquish him. He kidnapped her and shimmered all over to get away, almost making Phoebe sick, and she ended up letting him go because she loved Cole too much, and she only pretended to vanquish him.

She didn’t tell her sisters that she had allowed Cole to live, until much later. Piper was much more understanding than Prue was. Cole ended up coming back into Phoebe’s life and they reconciled after some obstacles. Phoebe was in an old western town with her father, and she ended up getting a connection with a Native American called Beau. Beau was shot but Phoebe felt the effects too, and so Prue and Cole had to go into the time loop and right the wrong that had happened there and save Phoebe’s life. Phoebe and Cole were happy again for a time, and she even made a power stripping potion so he wouldn’t be Belthazor anymore, but another demon manipulated him with his father’s soul, into killing a witch and turning himself evil.

After seeing what Cole had done, Phoebe once again gave up on him but she could not stop loving him, and after being turned into a banshee and fighting with Belthazor, it was revealed that Cole still loved her too. Phoebe made a potion to turn Cole good again and went to the Underworld to save him, but while she was there the Charmed Ones were exposed and Piper was shot and killed. Cole talked to the Source and had him make Tempest reverse time to before they were exposed, at the stipulation that Phoebe would stay in the Underworld, but he planned to kill her. However Leo knew something was wrong and helped Cole rescue Phoebe from the Underworld. However, the demon Shax had killed the innocent that they were trying to protect and had attacked Prue and Piper as well. Leo arrived in time to heal Piper, but Prue was already dead.

Piper and Phoebe grieved the loss of their sister, and held a funeral for her at which time Phoebe met Paige Matthews, who they soon learned was their baby half-sister and also half whitelighter. Things were a little strange with them at first but eventually Paige eased into a fold, and the Charmed Ones were reconstituted. And in their fourth year of being witches they faced new foes. They vanquished the Source and Phoebe and Cole were married. But their happiness could not last because Cole had become the Source, and impregnated Phoebe with an evil baby. Phoebe and her sisters vanquished Cole after a brief stint as queen of the underworld, and the seer stole her baby, but the baby killed the Seer and itself.

Cole was trying to come back from the demonic wastelands and Phoebe went to see him, to tell him to let go. Meanwhile the Angel of Destiny came and explained to the sisters that they had fulfilled their destinies and could live mortal lives if they chose to. Piper and Phoebe wanted to, but Paige convinced them to stay witches.

Phoebe was working as an advice columnist at the Bay Mirror, and this got her a lot of attention. She had billboards all over town, and she was getting out of her marriage with Cole since he was missing. But Cole came back, and didn’t want to let Phoebe out of their marriage and Phoebe ended up turning to a mermaid to keep him away. Cole was the only one who could save her because she still loved him, and she admitted it and changed back into Phoebe. Then she said she couldn’t trust him because she couldn’t trust herself.

For a long time Cole tried various schemes to get back with Phoebe, including magically mummifying her and going to another dimension where they were still together. The Phoebe of that dimension vanquished Cole, and so Phoebe was free. Phoebe met Jason Dean, the new owner of the Bay Mirror and ended up dating him. He moved to Hong Kong though, and invited Phoebe to go with him but her sisters needed her more, so she did not go. She continued to date Jason long distance though.

When the titans were released from their icy prison, Phoebe and her sisters became goddesses. Phoebe was the goddess of love. After defeating the titans, with some help from a man named Chris from the future, the sisters returned to their normal selves. Not long after, Phoebe gained the power of empathy and it drove everyone nuts for a long time. She also became a Valkyrie with her sisters to save Leo from Valhalla. She tried to lock herself up so she wouldn’t feel all of the people’s feelings especially because channeling Piper’s anger she had attacked Leo, but her sisters had a different solution and they drank a potion to keep them safe from Phoebe’s radar, because she could not keep their feelings to herself.

Phoebe was still dating Jason but that would not last when he discovered that she was a witch. They broke up and Phoebe was possessed by an evil spirit who caused a lot of mayhem. Jason and Phoebe parted amiably.

Phoebe went on a vision quest and discovered that in the future she would be pregnant. Desperate to find the father of her baby, Phoebe used her power of premonition to speed date through various men, and she was abusing her powers.

The Charmed Ones went on trial to save the life of long time friend Daryl Morris, and Barbas was there. It ended that Daryl could live, but that Phoebe should be stripped of her powers because she’d abused them. She was given the chance to earn them back, and she could still cast but it wasn’t the same. Later it was revealed that their were two realities, one good world and one bad world to balance them out and there was an event that happened that tipped the balance and so the other world was changed. It took an act of great evil in the good world to fix it, and Leo committed this act because Gideon, a fellow elder, had killed Chris.

Phoebe got her power of premonition back a few months later, because she said that saving an innocent was more important than saving themselves. She also rode naked on a horse to prove a point when Piper was kicked out of a café for breast feeding. She also went on a sabbatical from her job because she was not doing well at giving advice, and Elise, her boss, brought in a ghost writer named Leslie St. Claire who Phoebe dated for awhile. Leslie eventually left, when Phoebe went back to work.

The avatars were corrupting Leo, to create a perfect world and the sisters eventually sided with them after a vision Phoebe had of the future with no demons or magic, and in this future she also had a daughter. However they soon learned it wasn’t as perfect as it could be and conflict resulted in being taken from the world entirely. Phoebe and her sisters decided to go back to the way it was. They were fighting demons and stuff, but it was better than the alternative.

She met a demon named Drake, who was sent by Cole to restore her faith in love. Drake had become human for a year in exchange for his life. He and Phoebe ended up being trapped in a time loop, but her sisters ended up figuring everything out luckily. When Drake’s time was up, he and Phoebe shared a nice kiss and then he disappeared. Cole’s work was done. Phoebe also started going back to college to make her more credible as a columnist and to learn more.

An evil sorceress switched bodies with Phoebe, and kept her in a cage. Piper and Paige ended up vanquishing her, with Phoebe’s soul in her body. Eventually they discovered that Imara was not really Phoebe and it was all put right.

All year long they’d been battling with a demon called Zankou, who had stolen all of their powers, and finally the sisters realized to kill him, they may have to give up their own lives, and so they destroyed the nexus which is what Zankou was after, and since they’d been exposed as witches, they seemingly sacrificed themselves, but it was only their astral selves. The sisters left with Leo, using a glamour spell to make them look different and went away.

Additional Information: Phoebe's favorite movie is "Kill It Before It Dies", her favorite musical group is "The Flaming Lips." Her favorite fairy tale has always been Cinderella. Phoebe is afraid of elevators. Her nickname in school was Freebie.
